Japan Culture Center of Western New York
The Japan Culture Center of Western New York Inc. (JapanWNY) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization registered with the New York State Charity Bureau. As a nonprofit organization, the Center offers a broad spectrum of traditional and contemporary Japanese cultural programs and events. The fundamental purpose of these programs is to enable participants to realize differences and similarities between two cultures and to re-examine potentials and abilities from different perspectives. Ultimately, the center contributes to society by helping to unify people of different cultural backgrounds, thus contributing to world peace.

A vocal performance medley of anime themes and enka classics in Japanese, including themes from Your Name and Cowboy Bebop, and artists such as Ishikawa Sayuri and Yamaguchi Momoe.

JapanWNY has kindly allowed us to display the “Buffalo Dreaming” sister city folding screen created by Western New York artist Adam Cooley.
This display will be housed inside the Hobby Hideaway all three days of the convention for your viewing pleasure! Stop by to learn more about the piece and it’s relationship to Buffalo’s sister city, Kanazawa, Japan.
Hidden Village
Hidden Village is Buffalo’s Black Geek collective that hold events and spaces for pop-culture fanhoods to create, network, and bond over common interests. Every event is themed around fictional media and trending ideas, with room for both entertainment and learning. Fans of comic books, anime, fantasy, music, performance art, and related realms of education come together to socialize and exchange.

But should we consider being more open to its increasing popularity? Let’s dissect this a little bit more in this panel discussion.
